Bill Condon has been an active driving force in the growth of lacrosse in Connecticut for almost 30 years. Bill began his lacrosse playing days under the guidance of Conard’s legendary coach, Will Hunter—who was the first public high school lacrosse coach in Connecticut. Bill went on to play lacrosse at Fairfield University and then began his coaching career in 1983 at Holy Cross HS in Waterbury where he started the program. After coaching at Holy Cross for seven years, Bill was the JV Coach at Newington High School for two years before returning to his alma mater, taking over the reigns at Conard in 1992. Over the last 19 years at Conard, Bill has won over 200 games, led his team to six State Semi-Final appearances, and has been honored as Connecticut High School Lacrosse Coach of the Year in 2000 and Class M Coach of the Year in 2008. Perhaps Bill’s greatest achievements as a coach have been the numerous players who he has helped share the respect and love for the game of lacrosse. Many of Condon’s players have gone on to play in college, become coaches, and returned to be assistant coaches at Conard.
A member of the CIAC Boys’ Lacrosse Committee since lacrosse became a sanctioned CIAC sport in 1996. He also serves as treasurer for the Connecticut High School Lacrosse Coaches Association. Actively involved in summer camps for twenty years including Peak Performance and Elite Lacrosse, Condon has been known for his teaching of the skills of the game as well as an appreciation of the Native American History of the game of lacrosse.
Personally, Bill has been married to his wife Anne for 27 years with two children, Billy who played for his father at Conard before moving on to play at Union College, and his daughter Kyleigh, who also played in high school as well as at Lafayette College. Lacrosse has been and continues to be an integral part of the Condon household.
