WHEELER JOINS CARDINALS
by posted 07/28/2010

Cardinals Players and Families,
We are excited to announce that Holly Wheeler, Head Women's Lacrosse coach at Wesleyan University, has joined the Cardinals organization as director of the girls program.  Coach Wheeler has consulted with us in the past and now comes aboard formally to help us move our new girls program to the next level after a successful  inaugural summer season.  She will be in charge of the instructional curriculum and practice organization as well as developing a staff best suited to help our players progress.  Coach Wheeler will be announcing a Fall program for our girls within the next few weeks.  The Girls Fall program will follow a somewhat different format than the Boys fall program, one more tailored to the women's club game.  However, it will be guided  by the same Cardinals philosophy which emphasizes getting better as a player, developing positive relationships, experiencing the greater world of our great game of lacrosse and, equally important, having fun.  Check our website for an announcement soon from Coach Wheeler about Girls Lacrosse this upcoming Fall.

Cardinals Excel on National Stage.
by posted 01/15/2010

The Cardinals capped their Fall season by  qualifying two teams for the NDP Dick's Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions in Tampa Jan1-3. The Cardinals had a major presence at this high level event with a total traveling party of 120 people including 48 players plus coaches and family members. The Cardinals Green team competed in the Elite (seniors) Division, finbishing 15th in a strong field of 26 teams from throughout Canada and the US. They faced an extremely tough schedule, playing 2 teams from the final four and another from the final  eight and competed hard all weekend. In the 14-6 loss to the Warriors team, they faced the number one national recruit in this years recruiting class, Lyle Thompson from the Onandaga nation. The Cardinals Red team competed in the "rising stars" underclassmen division and finished seventh in a field of 16, winning four games, including an incredible 10-9 overtime victory over the Native American "Kiwaneika Krunch" team in the final game. Overall, our Cardinals players played tough against some of the top players and top club teams from throughout North America. In spite of some unusual and un-Florida-like weather, our entire group of players, parents, and Coaches had a superb time playing some great lacrosse and enjoying the fraternaty and fellowship that has become such a big part of the Cardinals program. It was great to see our kids from Central and Southeastern Connecticut do so well on a national stage.
